How to turn on your phishing filter

If you are using Internet Explorer 8:


Launch Internet Explorer.

Click on Safety, choose SmartScreen Filter, and then opt for Turn on SmartScreen Filter. If in menu you see notification Turn off SmartScreen Filter, it means that the filter is already activated.

When a pop-up menu opens, make sure that Turn on SmartScreen Filter is activated and then press OK.

If you are using Internet Explorer 9:

Launch Internet Explorer.

Click on Tools, choose SmartScreen Filter, and then opt for Turn on SmartScreen Filter. If in menu you see notification Turn off SmartScreen Filter, it means that the filter is already activated.

When a pop-up menu opens, make sure that Turn on SmartScreen Filter is activated and then press OK.

If you are using Internet Explorer 10 or 11:

  1. Open Internet Explorer for the desktop.
  2. Tap or click the Tools button, then tap or click Safety.
  3. Tap or click Turn off SmartScreen Filter, and then choose either Turn off SmartScreen Filter or Turn on SmartScreen Filter.
  4. In the Microsoft SmartScreen Filter dialog box, tap or click OK.

If you are using Mozilla Firefox (v 2.0 or higher):

Note: Phishing and Malware Protection are turned on in Firefox by default. However if you’d like to confirm that the phishing protection is on, follow these steps:

• Open Mozilla Firefox

• Click the menu button and choose Options.

• Click on the Security panel.

• Put a check mark next to the following settings to activate them:

+ Block reported attack sites - this setting protects you from malware sites and files as well as unwanted software.

+ Block reported web forgeries - this setting warns you against fraudulent websites that trick you into giving them your personal and financial information.

• Close the about:preferences page. Any changes you've made will automatically be saved.

If you are using Opera (v 9.1 or higher):

Launch Opera

Click on Settings, choose Preferences and then Advanced, opt for Security.

Make sure that Enable Fraud Detection is activated.

If you are using Google Chrome:

Launch Google Chrome

Click on Options, and then opt for Advanced.

Click on Enable phishing and malware protection.
