What is OpenID and how do I use it?

# What is OpenID?

OpenID lets players log into websites by using a third party protocol.

This will allow World of Tanks, World of Warplanes, and World of Warships players to safely log into third-party resources without having to register to any additional services by using their Wargaming.net ID.

The Wargaming.net ID is a single account, which until now was solely used for logging into the game and accessing Wargaming.net partners’ websites

When logging in with Wargaming.net OpenID, the only information transmitted to the third-party will be your in-game nickname and a link to your profile (currently displayed on World of Tanks.com). No other sensitive information (such as your email) is transmitted.

You can find more information about OpenID on Wikipedia.

How to use Wargaming.net OpenID?

Log into the following site  (http://www.livejournal.com/):

  1. Go to the website and select “Log In” on the top right, then select the OpenID logo:
    openID1
  2. Type http://na.wargaming.net/id/ and click on "Login":
  3. You will be redirected to the Wargaming.net Support page where you will have to log in using your Wargaming.net ID credentials:
  4. If you agree with the "Privacy Policy", please click on "Confirm":
  5. You will then be redirected to the original website, logged in with your Wargaming.net ID.

You can also edit your profile details (update your nickname, your email address and add a profile picture, etc.) on the websites where you can use your OpenID.

The above example can vary from one website to another. The protocol itself is quite flexible, allowing multiple sites to use it in different ways: After logging into OpenID, some websites will still ask you to create an account, or automatically create one.
